Introducing JuiceLabs

I’ve been extremely active in the Egyptian / Arab Tech Entrepreneurship Ecosystem for the past 3 years.

I’ve enjoyed a lot of it, namely getting to hang out with some of the most awesome youngsters Egypt has to offer that are crazy enough to think outside the box and come to the conclusion that they don’t want to be team leaders @ Vodafone’s Customer Service black hole for the rest of their lives.

I’d also like to think that due to the fact that I’m only roughly 5-8 years older than most of those I’m mentoring that my story is relatable + I’ve made my fair share of mistakes and learned a lot along the way that others can benefit from.

However as we are setting up our ecosystem there are several things that I observed that I didn’t like.

Namely the way some investors / accelerators are (in my opinion) taking advantage of the aspiring entrepreneurs, the lack of quality coaching / mentoring they are actually getting as well as some ecosystem stakeholders who are propagating the illusion that business plans & funding are the most important factor in the success of any business.

Hence after a quick discussion with Tarek Shalaby (probably over shisha) we decided to set up the “JuiceLabs”

We then went about hiring the best team money can buy and put our plan / vision into action

The general premise of the labs is that we leverage the talent we already have available to us @ The Planet in terms of business acumen, designers, developers, videographers and general insanity and tailor a program that meets the needs of each start-up.

We then put each team through a fun and intensive 6 month program after which the hope is that they are on the right path towards becoming a sustainable business as appose to a bunch of people with print-outs of a business plan looking for anyone that is willing to invest in, what is essentially a bunch of basterma.

Before signing off I’d like to thank our team that put a lot of work into seeing this dream become a reality, particularly Know-How who spent a lot of time and effort trying to get a bunch of crazy people with ideas organized 🙂
